role permission

hi ,
i am trying for role permission to different user in jetspeed
and also add one more new field to the turbine_user table.
the role permission is existing the jetspeed admin user.  but i tried and gave different
permission like user,admin,editor,author.  but this didn't affect the users.  All users get 

the same permission.
i want to create new role permission and add new field in table.
for this purpose, is i want to change the Jetspeed-1.4.jar files?
