Boost function in DisqueryMax

Hi, i have i question about boost function. 
i understand how does it works but i have a question:
if i can't know the range of the total score of the search result (the max
score can be 1 or 90 i don't know)... 
i can i set the value of the boost of bf params to be sure that it influence
really the total score?
