Spark DateFieldSpinner
Hi,
I wonder if anyone has already considered to
combine the DateField with the Mobile DateSpinner?
I have created a small example app with view source
enabled [1] ...

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/352808/apacheflex/datefieldspinner/DateFieldSpinnerTest.html
To make this work in Flash Builder 4.6 you need to
the Mobile-Theme under Properties > Flex Theme.

Mobile skins should be in mobiletheme folder, a sibling of the mobile folder.
I think you would have to move the skins to the spark theme and maybe other themes.

Thanks Alex,
I have added the code to my whiteboard fork [1], but, I don't
know how to push this to our apache flex whiteboard. So far, I
only used SVN, and, I am pretty afraid of these git command
line commands ;) Therefore, I am using the GitHub.app on my
Mac. How can I push the code to our whiteboard?
@Alex ... do you know where I can find the source of the
Flex Mobile Theme library?
themes/Mobile/mobile.swc
@All ... does anyone know how to detach this dependency so
that the Spark DateFieldSpinner could be used with any theme?
> See if you can find the patterns that other components in the
experimental SWC used and come up with something.
Right now, I am stuck because I have no idea solve the issue
mentioned above. Help would be welcome :)

RE: Issue with TLF applyFormat in Flex 4.10
Posted by Jason Taylor <ja...@dedoose.com>.
again, can anyone point me in the right direction here? We can't apply any formatting to a range of textflow in Flex 4.10. This issue is specific to the 4.10 SDK. This sample produces the error. Stackoverflow question here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19168415/applying-formatting-to-a-character-range-in-textflows-in-flex-4-10-sdk
Our app relies on highlighting text, so this is a pretty major issue for us at the momment.

Hi guys, please point me to the right place if this is the wrong. I have encountered what appears to be an error in TLF present in the 4.10 SDK (checked multiple flash player target versions) in regard to EditManager.applyFormat
in the selection state I am specifying a small character range, but the format gets applied well beyond that range. Attached are images from the exact same code (provided below) with drastically different results.
Thank you for any assistance & advise.

Hi Sebastian,
There is something I don't understand: where you says hovering is important for desktop apps, do you mean for the DateFieldSpinner only or for the whole app ?

RE: Spark DateFieldSpinner
Posted by Maurice Amsellem <ma...@systar.com>.
1) I know for the other way, i.e. setting interactionMode="mouse" on mobile apps.
For the spark:List component running on mobile:
- interactionMode="touch" enables swiping, but D&D is disabled.
- interactionMode="mouse" enables D&D, but swiping is disabled.
So I had to set interactionMode="mouse" on a mobile List to enabled D&D, and it works pretty much well.
So I guess that setting one or the other does not break anything, it just changes the way you interact with your components.
2) Searching for InteractionMode in the SDK source , you will find that setting InteractionMode="touch" will disable some functionalities :
- Tooltips are disabled
- Hovering is disabled.
- Drag & Drop is disabled
Etc...
3) Also, some computers (eg. recent MacBooks) have a multi-touch enabled mousepad, so setting interactionMode="touch" would even allow you to do some multi-touch gestures on desktop.

So ... what does it mean to set interactionMode="touch" in desktop apps?
does it break anything? Or, will everything work the same as if I have set interactionMode="mouse"?
Thanks!

ah ok, i thought you were setting value via ActionScript rather than
mxml. Although you can still use the constant value if you wish:
interactionMode="{InteractionMode.TOUCH}"
(dont fall into the trap of thinking Flash Builder always has your best

@Lee ... in FlashBuilder 4.6 autocomplete gives me two options "mouse" and
"touch". So, there is no need to set the constant like this ...
InteractionMode.TOUCH. It would be great if the interaction mode wouldn't
matter for the Spark DateFieldSpinner, because, in desktop apps probably no
one would want to set it.

Hi again ... In the latest version of the Spark DateFieldSpinner [1]
I have improved the locale related switching & I added a customised
DateRangeValidator [2] extending DateValidator that validates if the
user sets his data within the correct range. Hope this helps.

I found source tree[1] to be easier to use than the github app or the eclipse plugins. I don't have a design background.

Thanks Om and Alex,
@Om
> Do you want to add this as a new component to the mobile library or to
the default web/desktop library?
Not only ... I would preferably also use this component outside of mobile
projects. But, since there is a separation between mobile components and
"normal" components, I need to jump between these both worlds for now.
@Alex
I will try to get the Git issue solved next. As mentioned, Git is pretty
new to me and my head boils all the time when need to work with the command
line (e.g. Terminal.app on Mac). I am more of a designer then a developer.
Maybe, I can use the EGit plugin for Eclipse to commit my next changes.
But, for now, I use the GitHub.app.

I mentioned this in an earlier email - this is the wiki page for
instructions on GitHub based whiteboard for Apache Flex:

Hi Sebastian,
I'm really behind on some Falcon stuff right now. I'm hoping some other committer more interested in mobile will take a look.
I don't think I saw a notification of your github checkin. I think there is some procedure you have to go through for github commits to show up on the dev list, which is a requirement. See if you can find the old emails from Om on the process, or maybe it is on the wiki. I haven't set up mine yet, so I don't know.

Re: Spark DateFieldSpinner
Posted by OmPrakash Muppirala <bi...@gmail.com>.
Sebastian,
Do you want to add this as a new component to the mobile library or to the
default web/desktop library?
Also, it would be best if you start working with the git based repo. There
are very detailed and step by step instructions here:
http://flex.apache.org/dev-sourcecode.html
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/FLEX/Git+for+Apache+Flex+Guide(Excellent
guide compiled by Fred)
Also, please move your whiteboard to git, based on this guide:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/FLEX/Proposal+-+Github+based+Whiteboard
The SVN based repos (even whiteboards) are defunct and should not be used
anymore.
Thanks,
Om

Re: Spark DateFieldSpinner
Posted by Sebastian Mohr <fl...@gmail.com>.
I have updated the Spark DateFieldSpinner example [1] (view
source enabled). SelectedDate, MinDate, MaxDate and LocaleDate
can now be set from outside of the DateFieldSpinner ... I also added
this DateSpinnerSkin [2] that helped to switch back the "Spark Default
Theme" without crashing the app. But, I am still relying on the "Mobile
Theme" because the dragging and sliding of the SpinnerLists doesn't
work. Only clicking works properly in the "Spark Default Theme".
Any suggestions?

Maybe that mobile.swc theme includes the DateSpinnerSkin [1]
which DateSpinner is looking for, but, I can't say it for sure. I feel

Re: Spark DateFieldSpinner
Posted by Sebastian Mohr <fl...@gmail.com>.

Right now, I am stuck because I have no idea solve the issue
mentioned above. Help would be welcome :)

Hi Sebastian,
See if you can find the patterns that other components in the experimental SWC used and come up with something.
I think many will be interested in what you create.
Thanks for offering to contribute.
