Thanks for your quick reply.

I tried dom.DOMCount, and it throws the same exception.  I tried with both
my xml file and personal.xml from the samples in the Xerces-J package.

What is InvalidDatatypeFacetException supposed to mean anyway?  I couldn't
find anything in the documentation.
