[Issue 126910] New: Installed JRE Not Found

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126910

          Issue ID: 126910
        Issue Type: DEFECT
           Summary: Installed JRE Not Found
           Product: General
           Version: 4.1.2
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Windows 10
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: P5 (lowest)
         Component: scripting
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: bpswem@gmail.com

I am running into issues where OO tells me it needs a JRE in order to perform a
certain function and that I should install a JRE and restart OpenOffice.

I have Java and a JRE installed on my machine. Sever websites I visit plus
Minecraft also require Java to be installed in order to run. Thus I know Java
is installed and operating correctly.

Yet for some reason, OpenOffice seams incapable of detecting that java is
installed on my machine. At one point I tried to paint OpenOffice directly to
my JRE installation, and while looking right at the JRE executable, I got a
popup stating that OpenOffice could not fined a JRE at the designated location.

--- Comment #2 from orcmid <or...@apache.org> ---
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.2 is a Win32 (32-bit) application. Even when running on
Windows 10 x64, a 32-bit version of Java is required. The 64-bit version that
you probably have installed is not usable.

Install a 32-bit JRE in addition to what you have and it should all work.

Apparently, not all of the error messages about Java being needed are specific
enough. We can look into that.

Please confirm whether the above advice solves your problem.

(Note: There is a defect, and there do need to be changes in the code to avoid
users being confused about the problem in their configurations.)

The problem was that the error message did not tell the users that AOO needs a
32-bit JRE. Shouldn't we at least consider a code fix to change the message,
rather than closing as FIXED_WITHOUT_CODE?

Java Location Checked

A screenshot showing a portion of my directory identifying the location where I
have java installed and what version of Java as indicated by the folder name.
That is the default instillation path for the version of Java I have installed.

Yet OpenOffice seams unable to locate my installed Java.

I updated my 64bit install of Java and installed the 32 bit version as well.

OpenOffice has detected the 32 bit version as well.
