Karaf is not tied to Geronimo. Geronimo uses Karaf, but Karaf does not use parts of Geronimo.
I am not sure what you mean by integrate Karaf with Glassfish. The only combination I can think of is running Glassfish on top of Karaf, which should be quite fun. Could you please tell us a bit more about what you have in mind?

It is a bit out of scope, but not that much. It seems there is a bootstrap mechanism for Felix/Equinox to run GlassFish in.
Why not creating this bootstrap for Karaf?

Geronimo 3 is JavaEE6 compliant. Is it clustered? Does it have all nice web configuration and features of GlassFish?
But the problem is more than, for several reasons, GlassFish might me chosen. GlassFish is Open Source too and there is no obvious reason why Karaf should avoid integration with it. Karaf isn't tied to Geronimo isn't it?
So, why not using Geronimo experience to push Karaf to another JavaEE implementation?

What I have in mind is to have both, no matter technical aspect.
Now, on the technical aspect, it seems better to have GlassFish running on top of Karaf as you said. GlassFish runs by default over Felix. It can also run over Equinox. So, let's run it over Karaf :)

I'd think that's exactly the goal of Geronimo, so I'm not sure we want to redo the work in Karaf.

The idea of KarafEE is really interesting. But, as Guillaume said, an alternative already exists with Geronimo. Geronimo already uses Karaf to provide Java EE application server.
However, on the same area, TomEE (Tomcat + OpenEJB) is an alternative to Geronimo.
So, why not integrate parts of Glassfish as Karaf enterprise features/profile to provide KarafEE.
Maybe we can start a discussion on dev mailing list.

I like the idea, however I think that this is out of Karaf scope, since the target is to have Glassfish use Karaf and not the other way around.
By that I mean that it should be implemented either at the Glassfish side or as an external project. I would gladly help on any of these approaches.
