[jira] Created: (GORA-3) A logo for Gora

A logo for Gora
---------------

                 Key: GORA-3
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GORA-3
             Project: Gora
          Issue Type: New Feature
            Reporter: Enis Soztutar

So we need a logo for Gora.

As you might know, we have chosen the name "Gora" from a vast number of alternatives, since it was nice, short, easy to pronounce and remember. Also at hindsight, it can be the long form of "Generic Object Representation using Avro", or smt like that. Anyway, Gora was the name of Dogacan's dog, so we can have some kind of a dog in the logo. But it is not that critical.

What I would like is for the logo to look in the vein of the logo's for Hadoop and its subprojects. We can have Gora or Apache Gora text embedded to the logo. However, the logo and the text can also be separate.

We all love the cute little elephant that is Hadoop : http://hadoop.apache.org/
And Hive logo is actually kind of clever : http://hadoop.apache.org/hive/
Also Mahout logo is nice : http://mahout.apache.org/

Here are some images that look like the dog :
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&biw=1680&bih=795&gbv=2&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=akba%C5%9F+kangal&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

It would be best if we can prepare the logo in vector format, and bitmaps in various sizes.

Finally, Gora is a way to represent and persist data, using Hadoop, Avo, HBase, SQL, Cassandra, etc, so we can reflect that in the logo if needed.

We have a friend that is working on something, I will upload the it soon.

Enis Soztutar resolved GORA-3.
------------------------------

    Resolution: Fixed
      Assignee: Andrew Hart

The logo looks very good indeed.

I have committed this, since we will announce the web site and the mailing lists soon. If further modification to the logo is needed we can just open another issue for that.

Thanks Andrew.

Hey Andrew,

I think this looks great -- why don't you commit it to the source? Could you also take a look at GORA-4? I think Enis started working on a Forrest [1] version of website. We could probably easily integrate this logo in as soon as its in the source tree.

My +1 to commit...

Cheers,
Chris

[jira] Updated: (GORA-3) A logo for Gora

Posted by "Andrew Hart (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.

Andrew Hart updated GORA-3:
---------------------------

    Attachment: gora-3_v1.svg
                gora-3_v1.png

I've added a candidate logo for the project, using Enis's outline as a guide. I'm happy to take feedback and make as many changes/mods as people feel would help.

I've also added the source file (a .svg file done in Inkscape) as well in case anyone wants to make edits independently.

    Attachment: gora-3_v1.jpg

The .png file I uploaded earlier had a transparent background which JIRA has rendered black, obscuring some of the design. I've uploaded a .jpg version of the logo which should render properly. Sorry for any confusion!
