Currently, the public API Scan#setMaxResultsPerColumnFamily seems a little odd. The API was introduced in HBASE-5104 to handle behavior that could not be sufficiently created through the use of filters. This issue proposes that the documentation around this API be improved to make it clear how and when it should be used.
