The solution proposed by [~rohk] works for me for a directory name containing parenthesis.
Same as the original version, the proposed fix does not work for a directory name containing an exclamation mark.
However, I am very happy with this improvement and would recommend the fix to be applied.

Could someone please verify and commit the code change.
