[users@httpd] Apache Win32 Binary, mod_perl and mod_fcgid working

To inform you.

We at http://www.apachelounge.com made a binary available which works with
mod-perl and mod-perl etc.

re: "which patch" - There are a few notes and a pointer to the patches
at: http://www.apachelounge.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=8903#8903

It is 2.2.6/APR 1.2.11 with changes. Nothing from 2.2.5 or APR 1.2.9.

I didn't run the perl-framework regression tests (I'm not familiar with
them).

Definitely! While this set of patches works, and therefore may yield
some clues about the mod_perl problem - it remains unexplained *why* it
works, so it cannot be considered trustworthy IMHO.

The FastCGI part is well understood (needs INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE).

The mod_perl part (mpm_winnt) is still a bit mysterious.

A guess - mod_perl failed because of some interaction between
stdin/stdout and the Windows console devices CONIN$/CONOUT$.

Actually no, the "flaw" here in relation to modperl lies in mpm_winnt
combined with perl combined with Microsoft's MSVCR[T|70|71|80].dll.

The fcgid-type issues were a result of the newest APR which is what you
must be thinking of.

Presumably it could be something as simple as 2.2.6 with older APR.
Or the relevant hacks to the thrid-party modules in question.

That's a valid option (I'm on 2.2.5 for my live server). But choice
is a Good Thing, and Steffen is offering it to his users.

How did the perl-framework regression tests look; and which patch did you
happen to use? Or is this the cobbled-together 2.2.6 + smattering of 2.2.5
sources?

I'd personally encourage anyone who didn't need piped logs to hold back at
2.2.4 till there's a 2.2.7 ready to fly.
