Greetings

MyFaces Dev,

My name is John Fallows, and I am currently one of the lead developers
for Oracle ADF Faces. I have over ten years experience in the
industry and a strong desire to see JavaServer Faces succeed as an
enterprise-class technology.

I have subscribed to the MyFaces dev list, and plan to help out
whenever possible.

Kind Regards,
John Fallows.

Welcome John.

I'm not sure what Jiri means when he refers to the 'res' directory. I
guess he means the resource directory in src/myfaces/o/a/m.

There is nothing special that I am aware of for a standard build.
Checkout from the trunk (as you have.) I generally do *not* run the
default target (all). I usually use 'release'. The 'all' target
predates my involvement in the build script but it seems to do a few
extra things at the end involving testing. See if the 'release'
target works for you.

I am not really familiar with the generated source code portion of the
build script nor do I really know much about Ant and DTD validation.
The error message is kind of generic. Its not clear to me whether it
can't find the DTD or whether it found the DTD but the file is
invalid.

One suggestion would be to try it with a stand-alone Ant client and a
standard JDK without extra libraries, etc.

There is no special configuration necessary whatsoever - it should run
without a problem.

don't know what that message is about - maybe Manfred, Thomas, Sean
can help out with this one?

Hi Jijik,

Yes, size 69,224.

> <xmlvalidate warn="false" file="${generated.src}/myfaces_wap.tld">
> <dtd publicId="-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD JSP Tag Library 1.2//EN"

> </xmlvalidate>

Makes sense.

> Have you downloaded directory "res"?

Not specifically. I checked out http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/myfaces/trunk/.

If the relative "location" attribute is resolved relative to the
build.xml file in the build directory, then I would expect to see a
build/res directory in the working copy.

There doesn't appear to be any "res" directory under build in version control...

http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/myfaces/trunk/build/

...and the build scripts don't seem to generate a build/res either.

A recursive search of the working copy for dtd files revealed the following:

build/tld-doc/web-jsptaglibrary_1_2.dtd
src/codegen/org/apache/myfaces/codegen/resource/Component.dtd
src/myfaces/org/apache/myfaces/resource/web-facesconfig_1_0.dtd
src/myfaces/org/apache/myfaces/resource/web-facesconfig_1_1.dtd
tlds/web-jsptaglibrary_1_2.dtd
webapps/tiles/web/WEB-INF/tiles-config_1_1.dtd

How does the build/res directory get populated during the build?

Kind Regards,
John Fallows.

Hi John,
and when you look to /src/generated is there generated file myfaces_wap.tld?

If is, then will be the problem in DTDs. Generated file is validated in ant
script:
<xmlvalidate warn="false" file="${generated.src}/myfaces_wap.tld">
  <dtd publicId="-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD JSP Tag Library 1.2//EN"
location="res/dtds/web-jsptaglibrary_1_2.dtd" />
</xmlvalidate>

Have you downloaded directory "res"?

Sounds good. I'll take a look on MyFaces JIRA to see what's available.

Is there any documentation that I should read before making a patch
contribution, such as coding style guidelines, or perhaps a code
documentation policy?

Do I need to indicate when I start working on a specific issue, or
only after an initial patch is completed?

When I tried to build the trunk (r171073) with Ant 1.6 on WinXP SP2 by
running "ant" in the top-level "build" directory, the following error
occurred:

...
 [wapfaces] May 20, 2005 12:02:20 AM xdoclet.TemplateSubTask engineStarted
[wapfaces] INFO: Generating output 'faces-config.xml' using template
file 'jar:file:/C:/Development/Projects/my.faces/lib/myfaces-xdoclet.jar!/org/apache/myfaces/xdoclet/resources/faces-config.xdt'.

BUILD FAILED
C:\Development\Projects\my.faces\build\build.xml:681: Could not
validate document
C:\Development\Projects\my.faces\src\generated\myfaces_wap.tld

Is there any special configuration required after svn checkout before
running an Ant build?

Kind Regards,
John Fallows.

Re: MyFaces at JavaOne 2005?

There was one proposal for a MyFaces presentation (was it by Bill
Dudney and Matthias Wessendorf?) but it was turned down and they won't
present...

Thomas Spiegl, Manfred Geiler (him for sure) and me will probably be
there, and we would eventually like to do the session.

How about getting invited by Oracle to the conference ;) ?

regards,

Martin

MyFaces at JavaOne 2005?

Posted by Jonas Jacobi <jo...@oracle.com>.
Hi All,

I searched the JavaOne session schedule and could not find any
presentation about MyFaces. Anyone of you going to JavaOne anyway? If
you are coming to JavaOne and would be interested in presenting MyFaces
let me know. We have a mini-theater at our demo grounds where we will
have speakers covering the latest within J2EE. I really would like to
see a session delivered on the topic MyFaces at our mini-theater.

Please let me know if you can, and what title and abstract you would
like to present/submit.

Thanks,
Jonas

thanks for your offer!

good places to look for things where a helping hand would be needed is
the jira-buglist - we currently have a rather large backlog of
outstanding issues, as Sean has mentioned just before you joined ;)

As soon as you have tackled an issue, submit a patch to this mailing
list or as an attachment to the jira-bug and we will go over it and
commit it if we like it...

Martin
