Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: XERCERJ-491
    Summary: name of root node is not being enforced by schema
       Type: Bug

     Status: Resolved
 Resolution: INCOMPLETE

    Project: Xerces2-J

   Assignee: Xerces-J Developers Mailing List
   Reporter: Thomas Boerkel

    Created: Thu, 17 Oct 2002 12:27 PM
    Updated: Mon, 12 Apr 2004 2:26 PM
Environment: Operating System: Windows NT/2K
Platform: PC

Description:
Since 2.2.0, the name of the root node is not being enforced through the schema
anymore. This was OK in 2.1.0. In the attached example, you can change the name
of the root node to anything and Xerces will still validate it. Using these
features/props:
    dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    dbf.setNamespaceAware(true);

    dbf.setValidating(true);

    dbf.setAttribute("http://apache.org/xml/features/validation/dynamic",
                    new Boolean(true));

    dbf.setAttribute("http://apache.org/xml/features/validation/schema",
                     new Boolean(true));

    dbf.setAttribute("http://xml.org/sax/features/validation",
                     new Boolean(true));
