Re: [DISCUSS] Start releasing for iceberg-rust 0.8

Hey Xuanwo,

I realized I replied to this in my head but never actually sent a response
:)

I think starting another release is a great idea! I’ve created a tracking
issue for Iceberg-Rust 0.8 here [1]
There are already a bunch of great features for the new release. One I'm
really excited about is to be able to replace pyiceberg's cython avro
reader with an iceberg-rust one. We're almost at feature parity, only one
last issue remaining and its tracked here [2]

It would be great if someone could volunteer as the release manager. I’m
happy to help, of course.

Best,
Kevin Liu

+1, I thought I replied but actually I missed sending out the reply.

Hi, Matt,
I've added the prs into the blockers section of
https://github.com/apache/iceberg-rust/issues/1850 . I think we could merge
this before release.

Thanks for opening the discussion issue Kevin!

I put a wishlist of 3 PRs I'd love to get in that would allow DataFusion Comet to use a crate release of Iceberg Rust when we merge [1] but that's not a strict requirement. That said, I don't want to create undue review burden in time for a release. I'll keep an eye on the discussion issue and any PRs linked there I'll try to jump in and review. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to support the release.

Thanks,

Matt
