viewcvs and subversion

Afternoon all... (well, here anyway)

Interesting discussions this afternoon. Let me try lightening the
discussion by asking what I believe should be a relatively simple question.

I'm using a "non-traditional" layout, on top of Gentoo -- so I have a
reasonable amount of control over where things are built and how. Given
this,

My layout is:

/srv/www/<apache-domains>

/srv/svn
	/repos1
	/repos2
	etc.

I've installed viewcvs, but it's not, er, "viewing" ;-) The question I have
is, where does viewcvs need to be in the big scheme of things so subversion
can use it? It's current installed under /srv/www/jalapeno [<-system
localhost]/viewcvs.

Am I looking at a configuration issue with viewcvs (that is, it doesn't
matter where it resides, I just have to configure it correct so svn 'sees'
it)? Or do I need to install viewcvs under my current /srv/svn tree?

Great list, BTW. Informative and helpful.

TIA,
/tom

Agreed. But I'm not currently subscribed, and throught that there would
likely be someone on this list who'd worked through the installation.
Appreciate you taking the time to answer my query, though...

No, admittedly, I did not read the INSTALL stuff. At the time I posted, I
had stripped ViewCVS off my system and was looking for some guidance before
I proceeded with a re-install. I googled on the topic, and read through the
online ViewCVS content, but didn't see anything by way of explanation other
than some generalities.

I have ViewCVS install now, in the localhost 'root', so I'll read the
included docs carefully.

Thanks,
/tom

MMm... this question belongs on the ViewCVS list, not the Subversion
one. But since I'll end up being the one to answer it anyway, I'll go
ahead and do it here. This time. ;-)

Did you read the INSTALL document that comes with ViewCVS? While it
might not clearly state, "Thou hast not to install ViewCVS into thine
Subversion tree", I think even a cursory glance would reveal that
where you install the tool is of little consequence, as long as Apache
is configured to find ViewCVS, and ViewCVS is configured to find your
repository.
