public patch dir reorganised

I had to move the two patches that were made publically available into
a subdir I called apply_to_1.0.0 so that 1.0.2+ users don't start
reversing bug fixes  :-O

I also added a README to the patch dir

Patches are applied using the patch command e.g. to apply a patch 
called 76.kaboom.patch run..

patch -s <76.kaboom.patch

Warnings don't usually matter. If you get an error message, check the 
manual page for patch for information on identifying the problem.
