The [Versions Maven Plugin|https://www.mojohaus.org/versions/versions-maven-plugin/index.html] is a useful plugin for discovering dependencies that can be upgraded. One can generate a report about what upgrades are possible simply by using:
{noformat}
mvn versions:display-dependency-updates{noformat}
The plugin also supports exclusions so we can ignore irrelevant or invalid upgrades.
