   I'm currently working on adding support for Scala 2.12, and this PR is a prerequisite for that, since it makes it easier to remove older Kafka connectors from the Scala 2.12 build. The reason for this is that there are no Scala 2.12 dependencies for Kafka version < 0.10.2.x
