[Axis2] Axis2 1.1 release- CODE FREEZE - Released

Hi all,
I'm done with cutting the release. I would like to remove the code
freeze applied on the 1.1 branch...

Cheers,
Thilina

Yes.. It'll be maintained.. But only the critical bug fixes will go in
there. IMHO I don't want to see the 1.1 branch getting polluted with
random fixes for unreported issues.
IMO we should *not* be committing code straightly to the 1.1 branch..
If somebody feels that a bug needs to be fixed in 1.1 , he can open a
jira (possibly with a patch). Then we can decide whether that bug is
critical enough to be fixed or whether there's a possible danger to
the stability of the code.

My plan is to release a 1.1.1 bug fix version in case if we find any
major issues with 1.1... Still the things are looking okay and hope
it'll be the same for next couple of months. :)

I don't think we'll reach that status until we are done with the
rampart+rahas releases, which will be happening soon.. After that
everything will become build able with released versions of
dependencies..

+1.. Security related modules will follow this after their release.

+1 for a stable 1.1 branch with no SNAPSHOT dependencies and just
critical bug fixes.

Re: [Axis2] Axis2 1.1 release- CODE FREEZE - Released

Thanks Thilina.

Will the 1.1 branch be maintained going forward? If so, that would be
my best bet.

My issue is that I need to support a stable version of axis2 within the
product that we have just released. I'd like to keep this at 1.1 until
the next stable release is available, but would also like to get any
critical 1.1 bug fixes (and will of course make such fixes for any
issues that we encounter).

I was never able to use the 1.0 release, and so prior to 1.1 had our
product based on a post-1.0 development snapshot. This was stable, but
the problem was after a while it was no longer buildable. This is
because of upwardly incompatible changes in the various snapshot
dependencies.

My concern is that a similar fate awaits the 1.1 branch. If it contains
snapshot dependencies and is not actively maintained as the best most
recent stable 1.1+fixes, then eventually it will become unbuildable
inevitably.

I'd suggest eliminating all snapshot dependencies from the 1.1 branch
and only include new versions of libraries as are required for critical
updates to the current stable release.

Could you explain the plan?

Thanks,

Chuck

Yet another reason why the security stuff (rampart etc.) has to become
its own project. Let's do it after their 1.1 release is completed!

Thanks Chuck...

Here is the tag
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/webservices/axis2/tags/java/v1.1/

But this tag includes the security module, which has a SNAPSHOT dependency..
Alternatively you can try the source distro, which contains only the
released modules..

Congratulations to all on the 1.1 release!

Thilina, will the release be tagged in the repository so that it is
possible to get a release source version (e.g., no snapshot
dependencies) through svn?

Chuck
