The StAX API 1.0.1 at Codehaus has introduced a fix for a problem on javax.xml.stream.XMLOutputFactory. The fix in the API is not compatible with the RI and was introduced in an attempt to fix this problem as outlined in JSR 173 MR1. This MR was rejected by Sun and as such the recently released API is no longer compatible with the Java EE 5 RI.
