DO NOT REPLY [Bug 50530] New: Provide rate limiting for failed authentication attempts

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=50530

Summary: Provide rate limiting for failed authentication
                    attempts
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.3-HEAD
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: P2
         Component: All
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: sf@sfritsch.de

It would be nice if there was a way to limit the rate at which a client may
retry authentication if the password was wrong. This would make brute forcing
harder.

Maybe such a function could be integrated into mod_authn_socache
