           Summary: current child pid-number is transfered to http-clients
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.3-HEAD
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Core
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: ralf@stormbind.net

Hi,

with a simple head request its possible to retrieve the pid of the apache
process which serves the request.

i wrote a simple perl script [1] which does this.

maybe its not a real problem, i dont know...

the bug - if it is one - is in modules/http/byterange_filter.c:

  ctx->boundary = apr_psprintf(r->pool,
     "%" APR_UINT64_T_HEX_FMT "%lx",
     (apr_uint64_t)r->request_time,
     (long) getpid());

best regards
  ralf

It is not a bug. Having the pid does not give the receiver
any useful information. Any code running on the server will
have access to all of the pids via standard os utilities.
