Connection pooling in jackrabbit
Hi,
Does jackrabbit have connection pooling feature ?
Thanks,
Pulla Venkat

Actually we have implemented it in jackrabbit core 1.0 and we have
modified the core jar with our custom persistence manager. So if it will
be helpful please let us know, so that we can evaluate and share the
same.
Thanks & Regards,

Yes, that's possible.
Also, if someone wants to share such efforts, we'd be eager to accept
patches in JCR-1456 [1]. :-)

Hi,
Actually you can come up with your own persistence manager extending
simple persistence manager(for example) and you can implement database
connection pooling if you want. We have tried it for MSSQL2005 and it
worked.
Thanks & Regards,

Hi,
I was asking about database connection pooling?
I would like to know if jackrabbit uses single database connection
always or
supports mutiple database connections.
I setup in repository.xml with db for FileSystem & PersistenceManager as
shown below.
<FileSystem class="org.apache.jackrabbit.core.fs.db.OracleFileSystem">
<param name="url" value="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:XE"/>
<param name="user" value="hr"/>
<param name="password" value="all"/>
<param name="schemaObjectPrefix" value="AL_"/>
</FileSystem>
Is there a switch for mutiple connections.

Re: Connection pooling in jackrabbit
Posted by Anand Bhagwat <ab...@gmail.com>.
We are using JNDIDatabaseFileSystem which is obtaining connection from JBoss
managed connection pool. But I read in the documentation that it holds the
connection. Does it mean that the connection will never be returned to pool?
In that case we might face a problem of stale connection if that connections
remains idle for more than database server timeout.
We are having XA transactions across database and jackrabbit.
Any comments / suggestions.

Currently Jackrabbit uses a single connection per workspace
(persistence manager). There's been some discussion about supporting
connection pooling, but it's not implemented yet. See the dev@ list
archives for related discussions.

You mean Session pooling? There is some rough conceptual discussion
here: http://wiki.apache.org/jackrabbit/JcrSessionHandling Otherwise
you have to implement that in your client-code or look at using stuff
that is available for the spring jcr modules:
http://forum.springframework.org/archive/index.php/t-31359.html (just
a quick look on Google). But since session pooling does not gain much
in most cases, Jackrabbit does not offer any session pooling helper
class.
