IllegalArgumentException: Not a host:port

Hi,
I am new to hadoop and hbase.
I was able to configure a pseudo-distributed hbase instance using HDFS file
system.
I can interact to my hbase instance using hbase shell with no problem.
But I'm having serious problem trying to connect this hbase instance using
plan a java code.

I'm fighting for hours and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
pls let me know if you can help.

this is the exception that stops me

Amitabh. What are you seeing? The format in which we write data into
znodes in zookeeper changed when we moved to 0.96. Usually this is managed
for you but if you somehow get yourself in a state where you are trying to
read the znode content with a wrong hbase version, you'll see messages like
the one that is the subject of this thread. Check out your CLASSPATH. It
is listed in your logs as soon as your daemon starts (or just do
./bin/hbase classpath). Make sure expected versions of hbase are listed.
 Did you recently upgrade?

Can you please elaborate your solution. I am having the same problem and I
am struck with this issue.
Thanks

Re: IllegalArgumentException: Not a host:port

Posted by Listas Discussões <li...@arianpasquali.com>.
you were right.
it was a classpath issue.
the hbase jar version on my client was not the same from my hbase instance.

in the end I just had to put in my classpath hbase/lib dir and everything
worked fine :)

tks for your advise

You are trying to connect to a 0.92 hbase with 0.90 client? Or you
tried a 0.92 hbase and then reverted to 0.90 without clearing zk data?

The content printed by IllegalArgumentException looks like content
serialized by 0.92 hbase.
