Just did it and then saw this.

I have indicated that we want to graduate in the coming quarter. Which

To answer your direct question, Andrus, a mentor doesn't have to fill
out the report, just needs to make sure that it gets filled out. It's
excellent that you're on top of this, btw.

If I remember right, Cayenne will also be on the May schedule, then will
shift to quarterly reports.

It's my understanding that the initial PPMC would be the Incubator PMC
members and the mentors of the podling.

I've just been sending email to <ca...@incubator.apache.org> as
necessary.

Thanks! I saw an infra list commit email from Brian half an hour ago,
adding our accounts to committers list - will try it soon. As we
discussed before the actual code migration will be done in stages
while we finish 1.2 release. Probably can start with the website.

I'll also try to ping all other folks who contributed code...
Although that's going to be a tough one.

Hi, Andrus,

Kevin sent me his id preferences and I made the account request last
week, so that account should be created in the next week or so.

It looks like karma is now in place for the cayenne repo. Please
remember to set your svn password before trying to access the repo --
see http://www.apache.org/dev/version-control.html . And please post any
access problems to this list.

Regarding IP clearance, there's no single entity behind the Cayenne code
base, so no single entity to do a software grant. The best approach is
to file iCLAS for all code contributors. iCLAS are on file right now for
everyone on the active list at
http://objectstyle.org/cayenne/contributors.html, but you should ask
emeritus contributors to file iCLAs (and verify all code authors are
covered). IP clearance needs to be completed before a podling will be
considered for graduation -- lack of iCLAs for emeritus contributors
won't hold you up right now in the incubator.

Other mentors should spot check me on this ... The code can be imported
(with the full history, if you can). If there are any diffs between the
Cayenne AL 1.1 license and the ASF (for example, the copyright holder
names in the license) then you need to include that original copy in the
ASF repo, but the actual codebase will be AL 2.0. Once all files have
been updated with the new ASF copyright, a mentor will check that item
off on the Cayenne status page check list.

Hi Jean,

So where are we on our commit access? IIRC Kevin still has to send
you his id preferences. Also I recall seeing a message from you on
the incubator@a.o about IP clearance. Something in that area that is
holding us from gaining access?

Jean, other Cayenne mentors,

Does anyone has karma to add access for all our committers? We have
SVN setup already, but can't commit yet (see a comment attached to
the issue below).

One thing to add on our progress -- the Cayenne PPMC should submit an
INFRA issue to set up an SVN repository as soon as possible. It took
three weeks for ADFFaces to get theirs set up.

Per our earlier discussions there are two parts to this:

1. Once we get our Apache accounts, we can move the code that does
not affect 1.2 release (namely the new JPA stuff).

2. Hopefully soon we'll finalize 1.2. We have just a few remaining
1.2 issues, but now that we are in Beta and our users started
upgrading their production apps, we are receiving a number of new
bugs, so I won't give a hard estimate. The day 1.2 goes live we can
do the migration of the bulk of the code and change the package names.

BTW, I like the latest report version. I think it is pretty complete.

Yes, we've briefly discussed it on cayenne-dev. I think that it's
worth mentioning on our report.

Sounds good. I think we're far enough along on the "what to do next"
part (that being, do another major version release immediately after
repackaging to indicate the break in backwards compatibility) that we
could include it on our report.

We do need to tackle ip-clearance as mentioned in
http://incubator.apache.org/ip-clearance , but we haven't jumped into
that yet -- or maybe it has been mentioned already on cayenne-dev? And
it's good to acknowledge that lgpl issue that will need to be resolved.

It might be good to mention Cayenne 1.2 is being released outside
Apache, and that the dev list is discussing what to do next to bring it
into Apache.

Do we want to mention our planned timing for the SVN conversion?

Or that we've started looking at code licensing issues?
http://objectstyle.org/jira/browse/CAY-493

What about the impending release of Cayenne 1.2? (I'm thinking
probably not on this one since it's happening outside of apache
control currently).

Cool. One nitpick:

"Mail lists were created this month and are already quite active."

I would say

"Existing mailing lists were successfully migrated to Apache this
month."

I'll try to help out with this as well, although things are kinda busy
at work and MyFaces is in the process of doing release. And then
there are those new Cayenne bugs I keep finding -- I guess it's
starting to become more obvious that I haven't kept up since M5 :)

It's been on my list to mention it. I initialized an entry for Cayenne,
but, Bill, go ahead and refine. You've been the most on top of things
and it might be especially good to note the Confluence activity.

Leo, we've had a report in for Harmony for every time it was due. Not
sure what you're saying here. If you mean for this month, the board
meeting is next week, right?

I put the note below in the wiki...

Status Report for Harmony (was: REMINDER: *** Board Reports DUE! ***)

Hi Noel,

Sorry for the lack of report for harmony so far (BTW, we should probably
get Marvin to send out automated reminders to relevant (P)PMCs too, it should
save you some nagging effort). The wiki is currently down, so I can't see what's
up there right now or whether someone else already wrote something so I'm
resorting to sending an e-mail; hope that's ok.

Harmony is going well, so well that it is not easy to sum up all the things
happening. There is, however, currently nothing requiring board or incubator
PMC attention. Highlights for the last quarter:

 * no releases.

 * We have welcomed one new PPMC member:

   * Tim Ellison

 * we have welcomed three new committers:

   * Mikhail Loenko
   * George Harley
   * Stepan Mishura

and expect to add quite a few more in the next quarter.

 * we have received and processed several more bulk contributions from
different parties, including for beans, regex, math, jndi, logging, prefs,
sql, math(again), crypto, and rmi (twice), hundreds upon hundreds of unit
tests, an eclipse plugin for doing harmony development, and more. Our
framework for accepting these contributions (based on jira, svn, and faxes
and documented on the harmony website) seems to be working well.

 * there was concern over a potential copyright infringement within our JCHEVM
component. This concern has been addressed by receiving a code donation for
the potentially infringing files, without having to resort to lawyers and to
the mutual satisfaction of all parties and under the watchful eye of the
   Incubator PMC.

 * we have begun collaborating with the SableVM community, which has relicensed
its VM under the ALv2 (the related previous potential licensing/copyright
issues have been resolved without having to resort to lawyers and to the
mutual satisfaction of all parties and under the watchful eye of the
   Incubator PMC).

 * we have seen a lot of discussion on how to do testing, how to use jira, etc
etc, as more and more developers gear up to contribute to the project. These
kinds of discussions are going well and the collaborative consensus-based
   process is emerging.

 * we have identified the (future) need for some serious build and testing
server infrastructure but have not approached the infrastructure team about
this yet. IBM is currently hosting a Maven Continuum server to run the
harmony tests, and sending the results to our mailing lists.
