Can't connect with the Guacamole

Hey everyone!

I have finally set up a working guacamole.
I have created a connection but when I try to use the connection I get a
red rectangle with the error message:
"An internal error has occurred within the Guacamole server, and the
connection has been terminated. If the problem persists, please notify your
system administrator, or check your system logs."

When checking the guacamole container logs I see the following error:
"ERROR o.a.g.s GuacamoleHTTPTunnelServlet - HTTP tunnel request failed:
java.net.ConnectExeption: Connection refused (Connection refused)"

"DEBUG o.a.g.s GuacamoleHTTPTunnelServlet - Internal error in HTTP tunnel."
"org.apache.guacamole.GuacamoleServerException: java.net.ConnectException:
Connection refused (Connection refused)"

Not examined the container myself but the most likely answer is the deployed file does not have the correct permissions from being deployed separately, they need to be the same  or close enough to the acct the guac instance is running under

Make sure guacd is running and listening on the expected address.

If it is running, check whether your Linux distro defines both "::1" and
"127.0.0.1" for localhost, as that would cause TCP connections to
localhost to round-robin between IPv6 and IPv4, whereas guacd will only
listen on either IPv4 _or_ IPv6.

Okay, it seems like the container is failing to read the guacd.conf due to
SELINUX? which is weird because the VM has SELinux on permissive yet I get:
SELinux is preventing /opt/guacamole/sbin/guacd from open access on the
file /etc/guacamole/guacd.conf

Sorry, there's a lot going on in this thread, and it seems like you're
trying several different things to get things working. Here's what I'd
recommend:
* Approach the troubleshooting and debugging systematically - make one
change at a time, and work through things in an ordered fashion. If you
think SELinux is causing issues, disable SELinux and then retry. If that
resolves the issue, then you know you need to dig into SELinux-related and
figure out what is blocking it and resolve that. If not, then you can
re-enable it and move to the next thing.
* Simplify your configuration as much as possible. You mentioned in a
previous post that you're using 3 different guacd containers with a VIP and
a load-balancer - it would be better to eliminate this and just do a single
instance on the local host (localhost/127.0.0.1), and make sure you get
that working, before trying a load balancer or anything more complex like
that.
* Post as much detail as possible here. You mention you're using Docker,
but that you're running a load balancer, and it's listening on 0.0.0.0:4822.
It's completely unclear *what* is listening on that host/port, and where?
Is that the listening information for the guacd container? Or is that the
listening information on the Docker host? Or is that the listening
information from the load balancer/VIP? Are you managing the Docker
containers manually? Or are you using Compose? Or Ansible? I think I
remember that you were using Ansible to write out the config file, but not
sure if you're also using that to create and start containers? What
configuration are you using on the containers, or what command lines are
you using to create and/or start them? I know that's a lot of questions
that I'm throwing at you - and it may seem like the opposite of
systematically approaching it - but I'm just trying to point out that when
you post little bits of information like above, you create more questions.
The more information you can provide, the fewer times you have to reply to
answer the questions.

If the connection reaches guacd, I think some logs will be recorded in syslog.
What log level are you setting in guacd.conf?
If you haven't set it, the level should be info by default.
For example, I'm using guacamole-server ver.1.5.0 and the level is
info, then I got some logs in syslog like this when trying RDP
connection.

Dec 19 04:12:55 example guacd[3300]: Creating new client for protocol "rdp"
Dec 19 04:12:55 example guacd[3300]: Connection ID is
"$855dc6f8-da0d-4ddd-bdb8-06b93e6d6afa"
Dec 19 04:12:55 example guacd[3305]: Security mode: Negotiate (ANY)

Re: Can't connect with the Guacamole

It was my mistake, I have seen that you responded. And assumed it was this
thread and answered.

After noticing I was in the wrong thread I came back here.

The only relevant thread is here.

Im currently stuck on the SELinux problem, I think at least.

Because my guacd container is listening on 0.0.0.0:4822
And I still get connection refused.
And I'm not sure how can I verify the guacamole traffic is arriving to the
guacd container.

Another question.
I have 3 guacamole container on 3 different vms. And 3 guacd containers on
those vms as well.

I have Haproxy running on all of the an a VIP with keepalived

Should I point each Guacamole container to the localhost guacd? Or to the
VIP guacd?

That's fine - just please don't duplicate a particular response across
multiple threads. Doing so hurts the search results in the archives for
future users that may encounter the same problem.

When this sort of thing happens, I try to respond as quickly as possible
to stop the divergence by noting the duplication and including a link to
the thread with further responses (so that users can find the remaining
posts, even if they end up in the wrong thread when searching the archives).

You don't have to stop posting to this thread if the thread still has
relevance; just please confine any further responses regarding the
response that was duplicated (regarding the formatting and usage of
guacd.conf) to the other thread.

I didn't mean to double post, and I'm not sure that the problem is the
guacd?

My problem is as specified here. I can't use the connection because I get
connection refused.
As of your answer I have understood that I might need to change the
guacd.conf.

However I'm struggling with it, the last post didn't help because the
solutions provided didn't work.
So now I'm trying again to understand it just on a different occasion.

I would have not opened a new thread about why is guacd.conf not working, I
see it as a different scenario.

Yes indeed, And it still doesn't work.

But tell me please, where is the default file located?
Because I entered the guacd container and there is no guacd.conf file
anywhere?

Re: Can't connect with the Guacamole

Posted by Michael Jumper <mj...@apache.org>.
It sounds like the tool you're using to generate the guacd.conf file is
omitting the line ending character from the final line in the file.

Assuming it's just your text editor not adding the newline character,
did you try adding a blank line as suggested previously?

Re: Can't connect with the Guacamole

I just make a normal guacd.conf.j2 file in ansible which I deploy with the
template module.

The guacd is the only file making this issue.

How are you editing your guac.conf file? It might have to do with if the
file is saved with CRLF vs LF line endings. Different editors may be saving
it with new line endings.

I saw that answer in the internet as well, But how can I edit the
guacd.conf file ?

When trying to set a guacd container with a self-written guacd.conf, it
says that "unexpected end-of-the-line" at the last letter of the file.

But when leaving the guacd.conf to be the default, it runs on 0.0.0.0:4428.

So where is the problem ? What should be changed?

Make sure guacd is running and listening on the expected address.

If it is running, check whether your Linux distro defines both "::1" and
"127.0.0.1" for localhost, as that would cause TCP connections to
localhost to round-robin between IPv6 and IPv4, whereas guacd will only
listen on either IPv4 _or_ IPv6.
