XmlObject --> Traverse Problem

Hi all,
 
         i am having an xml which has a root node with many childrens,grand childrens and subchildrens...
 
        when i parse this xml and get the required object
SalesObject salObj = SalesObject .Factory.parse(xmlFile);
salObj .selectPath(---XPath--)
 
         this is perfectly working.....but when i try to traverse through the xml using the salObj only 1 level of hierarchy only coming ...inside deep elements returns null....
 
        for example....
salObj.getShelf() is working...when i call something like
salObj.getShelf().getBook() this returns null.....
 
       How to solve this.....only 1 level of hierarchy is working when i was working with objects in deep level.....
