+1, though it doesn't count :)

Ran through quickstart and unit tests. Also ran the release-tar and
release-zip targets

Re: [VOTE] Kafka 0.8.0 Beta 1 (Candidate 1)

I have patched the changes I think we need
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-944

when I get home later tonight I should be able to get the src and binaries
and sign them and put up for a VOTE

worse case if the VOTE passes and folks can download the 0.8 source and
publish locally and also the binary distribution for the server

best case if the VOTE passes we will also have the artifacts in maven, my
suspesion is that with beta1 we may still have some more minor updates to
get everything up and into apache maven repo since all the docs are not for
SBT it has been some figuring out and surmising to get it to where I think
it will work

I also have a INFRA ticket open for where i got stuck
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-6414

but i think we are ready to roll this

Re: [VOTE] Kafka 0.8.0 Beta 1 (Candidate 1)

Posted by Joe Stein <cr...@gmail.com>.
Hey folks, I am going to vote -1 on this this release. I know, I know, I
know I prepared it but I was working for hours and hours last night going
through so many facets even working on it to deploy into our own shakedown
(pre-production) environment and it hit me! We are not voting on all the
artifacts we need for this release, its different than 0.7.X and has to be
prepared that way for vote.

so one thing I want to change in src is SNAPSHOT to beta1 and will create
JIRA can commit once we get +1 on patch.

also for the -bin distribution folks should be able to just download and
run the quick start and ./kafka-server-start.sh
../config/server.properties should just start without any other class
files, etc. but I will prepare that also and sign it and put up in the
second candidate vote

any other feedback for the second candidate release please let me know

How were the artifacts built? I've built from a freshly-cloned repository,
