Apply as committer

Hi all,

my name is Yuri Dario and in the past years I worked on the os2 port
of OpenOffice.org; that work started with OOo 2.0 until version 3.2
released last year.

Now it is time to get back to OOo and update the code base to the most
current level, so I'd like to be invited (is this correct?) as
committer, in order to migrate to Apache the code now living in sun
cws os2port07 and 08 (the latter is living only here, since it has
never been committed to the cws).

I worked on OOo source code since 2005, and my work has been always
integrated into main trunk, except for latest cws due to lack of
resources here and on sun's side.

I already compiled Apacke ICLA, but I see that I need an invitation
before sending it over.

thanks!

thanks :-))

I looked at these pages first, but I thought that existing OOo
developers with write access to sun servers were already at committer
level. But it is not a problem to start as developer :-))

sure, I have plenty of them to submit once I resync with AOOo tree.

current OS/2 binary builds are done by a vendor, and are shipped with
the eComStation license, so they are not available to general public.
While full source tree is available to everyone, nobody tried to
compile it (it is not a trivial task).

Hi Yuri,

Welcome to the project and welcome to Apache!

I'd recommend reading this page, especially the sections on
"Meritocracy" and "Roles":

http://www.apache.org/foundation/how-it-works.html

Also, the AOOo project's page here: http://incubator.apache.org/openofficeorg/

You can send the iCLA to the Apache Secretary at any time. You do not
need to wait for an invitation.

You are also free to download the source code and submit patches. If
you do a good job at that, and demonstrate that you work well with
others on the project and are not breaking the build, then a member of
the Project Management Committee (PMC) can nominate you to be a
committer. If voted in as a committer then you will have direct write
access to the SVN.

I don't want to make any promises, but a good coder who collaborates
well with others on the list, can become a committer quickly. It
sounds like this will be easy for you.

In any case, I'd recommend starting with simple patches, at a module
level, to make it easier to review.

Also, where are you distributing the OS/2 ports?

Regards,

-Rob
