Because of the optional instance name ApacheDS does not start up on a reboot. Instead an error message is printed asking for the default instance.  Perhaps if the instance name is not provided the default instance is presumed?

Alex Karasulu closed DIRSERVER-1087.

    Resolution: Fixed

The installer now generates an init script specifically for the instance (default one at least for now).  This issue has been fixed in the past.
