Storing scm credentials in the database (or not)

Oon CONTINUUM-1182 Olivier commented that we no longer store scm
credentials in the database.

Ever?  Do all of the scms we support have the concept of cached credentials?

The changes I've seen involve not storing the credentials *if* the
'use cached credentials' checkbox is checked.

Can someone clarify?
