[jira] [Created] (THRIFT-6437) Erlang: let the JSON protocol parse a message incrementally
Jens Geyer created THRIFT-6437:
----------------------------------
Summary: Erlang: let the JSON protocol parse a message incrementally
Key: THRIFT-6437
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/THRIFT-6437
Project: Thrift
Issue Type: Improvement
Components: Erlang - Library
Reporter: Jens Geyer
{{thrift_json_protocol}} hands a received message to {{thrift_json_parser}}, which turns the whole message into a list of parse events before the protocol reads its first field. For a message made of many small elements that event list is many times larger than the message, and it is kept until the whole message has been read.
Proposed change: let the parser produce its events on demand, so that the protocol consumes them as it reads and the memory in use follows the value being read rather than the whole message.
_Drafted with AI assistance (Claude Opus 5.5); reviewed and filed by Jens Geyer._
