Branch SI_XPT has an implementation of this feature using 2.1 SNAPSHOT of maven. It supports the basic build phases: clean, install, build, test.

------------------------------------

I successfully got a .NET web service client to communicate build instructions with xFire running on Apache. However, it looks as though the MavenEmbedder itself is not mature enough to use right now (according to Jason wait until 2.1-alpha-1). Other options include, 1) new MavenEmbedder; 2) MavenCli; 3) execute through a process. Options 2, 3 are workable but there is a problem of getting the build output to the IDE console in a timely way.

I think it's reasonable to target 2.1-alpha-1
