   This issue was reviewed as part of the JIRA-migrated backlog triage.
   
   Findings: this is an RFC/dev task, not a bug. Currently supported: RFC-81 slot claimed via PR #11703 (merged). Pending: the RFC design/content in PR #11793 (still open) and subsequent implementation of log compaction with merge sort.
   
   Keeping open. Will be scoped into a future feature-completion effort.
