Bringing in GPars under ASF / Groovy?
Hi All,
Just like we are voting to bring in Geb under the Apache Groovy
umbrella, can we also do something about GPars[1]? It's a useful project
that was run by late Dr. Russel, a Groovy committer IIRC. Thanks

Yup -- sorry for the typo.

Ok. Good to hear that.
Thanks,
Roman.

I am assuming you meant GPars and not Geb? GPars definitely has a
community around that. Also, Paul and Dierk are part of both GPars team
and are Apache Groovy committers. I believe it will gain more traction
soon. Thanks

I think that gpars should become an overhaul with a tighter integration
into Groovy as language (async/await is one thing here very obviously)
and I think for this it would make most sense to make gpars a submodule.
for example maybe we choose one concept, tightly integrate that in
Groovy and then rebuild gpars different variants based on that. Since
there is now virtual threads and maybe soon something like continuations
in the JVM some things may really become worth rethinking an reinventing
GPars. Maybe most of the DSL will stay the same.
So the story is in my eyes slightly different...
bye Jochen

I'd love to have Geb joining Apache Groovy. One question I've got is
this tho: is there enough community left to [at least semi-]actively
maintain it?
Thanks,
Roman.

Definately something we should look at. A few folks we'd need to work with
to make that happen. My thinking is let's get Geb over the line first and
then we can repeat for a few other projects if/as needed.

It'd be nice (beyond the existing bundling) to further include it as a
dedicated module.
Also updated to more modern Java idioms, I guess.
And maybe it could be the occasion to evolve Groovy to add some constructs
like async / await like in other languages, but that could be backed by
GPars.
