Install instructions for Redhat 6.2 Tomcat 3.2.1 Apache 3.14 with SSL and Cocoon 1.8
I assume you have cocoon running with Tomcat. If so this will get you
running cocoon through Apache with SSL. I installed Apache with ssl from
the instructions on www.modssl.org here they are: (I made one change -- to
enable mod-so!!!)
1.. Fetch and extract the distributions of Apache, mod_ssl and OpenSSL
$ lynx ftp://ftp.apache.org/dist/apache_1.3.14.tar.gz
$ lynx ftp://ftp.modssl.org/source/mod_ssl-2.7.1-1.3.14.tar.gz
$ lynx ftp://ftp.openssl.org/source/openssl-0.9.6.tar.gz
$ gzip -d -c apache_1.3.14.tar.gz | tar xvf -
$ gzip -d -c mod_ssl-2.7.1-1.3.14.tar.gz | tar xvf -
$ gzip -d -c openssl-0.9.6.tar.gz | tar xvf -
2.. Build OpenSSL
$ cd openssl-0.9.6
$ ./config
$ make
$ cd ..
3.. Build and install the SSL-aware Apache (I added so support)
$ cd mod_ssl-2.7.1-1.3.14
$ ./configure \ --enable-module=so \
--with-apache=../apache_1.3.14 \
--with-ssl=../openssl-0.9.6 \
--prefix=/usr/local/apache
$ cd ..
$ cd apache_1.3.14
$ make
$ make certificate
$ make install
Next, I downloaded and untarred the source code for Tomcat and built my
mod_jk. You must replace the path to APXS with your path to apxs. -- COPYING
THE MAKEFILE IS IMPORTANT, THIS IS WHY MY INSTALL WAS NOT INSTALLING THE
mod_jk correctly.
# cd /usr/local/jakarta/jakarta-tomcat-3.2.1-src/src/native/apache1.3
# cp Makefile.linux Makefile
# vi Makefile
APXS=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs
# make
Note: the above may fail, because the object files from the ../jk directory
have been compiled to the current directory, rather than the source
directory. Running gcc -shared -o mod_jk.so *.o should finish the build
# cp mod_jk.so /usr/local/apache/libexec
cp /usr/local/jakarta/build/tomcat/conf/mod_jk.conf-auto \
/usr/local/jakarta/build/tomcat/conf/mod_jk.conf-redhat
## vi /usr/local/jakarta/build/tomcat/conf/mod_jk.conf-redhat
## add your contexts to the conf-redhat file
## for example if you have cocoon running with tomcat
## under a directory called cocoon add the line
## JkMount /cocoon/* ajp12 to this file in the section containing
## similar entries
# vi /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf
# Tomcat configuration file
include /usr/local/jakarta/build/tomcat/conf/mod_jk.conf-redhat
## start tomcat and restart apache and you should be up and running
# /usr/local/jakarta/build/tomcat/bin/startup.sh
# /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl restart
If you have any other questions, I found some good install tips on
