Sebastian,

This is my personal opinion, so take it for what it is worth.

There are several aspects to this issue

(1) Non-technical. None of the HttpClient committers appears to have a taste for
writing documentation. Most of the work on HttpClient documentation is driven
solely by the needs of the user community, that is, if the trouble of repeatedly
answering similar types of questions over and over again is greater than that of
writing a user guide. I fully admit HttpClient 3.0 documentation leaves a lot to
desire, but I rather see our limited resources spent on HttpComponents /
HttpClient 4.0 redesign

(2) Technical. Leaving the defaults undocumented allows us to change them
without having to maintain backward compatibility with previous releases. If an
application requires a certain behavior or HTTP spec compliance one should
explicitly set relevant parameters rather than rely on default settings.

Anyway, we never turn down documentation patches, so feel free to reopen the
issue and submit a patch

Oleg
