But I never use it. Guess that because I always use a illegal-ip-address private server, I never come around a secret key to be used at start/stop.

Can somebody explain advantage of Stop solr with "-k" option ? 

-k <key> Stop key used to protect from stopping Solr inadvertently; default is "solrrocks". bin/solr stop -k solrrocks
