automated (un)deployment

Hi, in tomcat 4.1.29, what is the best approach to replace a deployed war (wich is expanded) via the manager webapp ?

Also, what's the best choice between 1) automated deployment settings via the <host> element e.g. 'liveDeploy' or 2) the manager webapp deploy/install functions ?
