I can tell you that we use Gentoo and have had very good luck getting SVN
running on it. We compile SVN ourselvs and don't use packages though. In
general, we just seem to have good luck with Gentoo.

As an aside, we also use XFS for our repositories. It seems to be quite
fast at dealing with writing BDB log files (for a journalled FS).

To minimize overhead we have scripts that make re-installing a newer SVN
pretty easy. Once you get the scripts setup it isn't so bad and you don't
have to wait for packages.

We use the command line for Mac OS X for now.
