Still undecided
Hello,
I had written a ways back and I am still sitting on the fence with using
ServiceMix or trying a different Grid oriented approach. To start I like
the idea of ServiceMix and SOA.
I have a growing web site that I want to scale massively over time. I am
trying to figure out how to grow seemlessly by building the right
infrastructure now. Technologies I am currently using include OJB object
relational bridge and Struts.
The initial problem I am trying to solve seems simple, but will provide the
basis for many new services: Create new email services.
My big problem is that the data is not perfectly seperated. Email addresses
and other member information is sharable and modifyable by more then one
service. The user can change the email manually or the email service can
modify the email if it finds the email address is no longer usable. As OJB
caches the data, I am nervous about moving towards a distributed caching
model as it may not scale well.
Another issue I am nervous about that I mentioned previously is ServiceMix
performance itself. There is no performance data and I have no clue how
well it might scale. I don't know of big companies that are yet using it
with massive amounts of data. The only performance data I have seen on any
SOA has been between 2 and 30 transactions per second. To me the high end
mark seems poor.
Is there any information that you might have that could help me through some
of my fence sitting? Any articles that address my issues? How do you
imagine a series of services that hang off of shared data might scale?
Thanks for any ideas.
