Commons-HttpClient conflict with WebDAVClient

Hi all,

Got a question.

My project uses WebDAVClient for remote file access. Recently I tried to add
Commons-HttpClient 2 beta 1 to my project.

This cause problems as WebDAVClient already packages an older version of
HttpClient (version 0.9 I think).

Anyone care to share how they handled this.

Regards,
Daniel

Eric,

Thanks for your reply.

They pointed me to their nightly build, which do to my project guidelines I
a reluctant to use. A recent beta or release candidate would really be nice.

I shall wait for a non-nightly release build from them, however I fear that
that may take awhile.

Yes I know, actually I am only interested in the webdavclient.jar. I do not
use any of the other slide .jars. Could you send me a copy of just the
webdavclient.jar which I can use with HttpClient 2.0 beta 1?

Regards,
Daniel

Daniel,

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I was on vacation. I'm hoping you've
gotten an answer on the Slide mailing list, but I've not had a chance to
check.

I've been doing some work to keep the latest code in Slide up-to-date
with the latest of HttpClient 2.0.

You should have success there. There is a bunch of interest in the Slide
webdavclient, using the latest of HttpClient 2.0 branch, so it should be
relatively easy to work with.

There is currently a patch outstanding which should help matters
somewhat, as well. The Slide folks tend to be a lot less responsive then
the excellent group here at HttpClient, so it may not be as smooth as
you like.

"before slide was actually updated"?
so now the latest WebDAVClient has which version of HttpClient ?
eg. HttpClient 2.0 beta 1 or 2 ?

Slide originally created HttpClient and it was branched out from there.
They weren't too happy about the API changes that were made after the
code was branched out and never got around to updating with HttpClient
until recently. Hopefully their next release will have an independant
HttpClient jar that is our official 2.0 release.

Does anyone on this list use WebDAVClient with Common-HttpClient 2.0 beta 1?

Hi Daniel,

As you have discovered HttpClient 2.0 and 0.9 are not compatible in the
same VM. My knowledge of the WebDAVClient (Slide) is fairly limited
but here goes.

There has not been a Slide release for quite a while so the last
release has an extremely outdated version of HttpClient. From looking
at CVS it seems that the latest code in the Slide repository is using
HttpClient 2.0 beta 1. My suggestion would be to look into a recent
nightly build but I am not sure how stable they are. Sending an email
to the Slide user list will probably clear things up. Also, I know
Eric Johnson has been working on updating HttpClient support in Slide
recently so he may have somthing to say. Eric?
