IMAP with Lotus Notes client

Hi,
I have configured Lotus Notes 8.5.2 to use James IMAP server. Though the message list is shown, I'm unable to open each message.
It results in following error
IMAP4 Maximum number of bad responses received from server exceeded.

Please note that the same works fine with MS Outlook and Thunderbird.
Kindly advice.

Regards

Agree, I think we can make one to save the server-client responses in a
way that we can use them to build integration tests. I'm thinking of
mailbox-integration-test script files here that have
"S:" and "C:" lines.

This way we can easily add integration test cases that match real client
configs when we find them.

I'll put up a jira for this.

Hi Ioan,
I use wireshark to go deep in the communication.
A 'protocol-dumper' would be a nice feature for James.

Hi,

I also raise the level to DEBUG to see more information.
However, exceptions stacktraces are normally printed in the log with
default configuration.

Thx, Eric

Yes you can, change the settings in /conf/log4j.properties

They log INFO while some critical error messages in James are logged with
level DEBUG.

Is there a way we can enable James to provide more info in such cases?
Like a protocol dump that we can enable? If not maybe we can discuss

RE: IMAP with Lotus Notes client

Posted by Jentu Jain <je...@datacert.com>.
Eric,
These are the steps that I do to get a mail on Lotus notes
1) Start the server
2) Open up the IMAP account configured in Outlook
3) Move a mail from my official Outlook account to IMAP outlook account.
4) Open up the mail in IMAP account and it opens up fine.
5) Open Lotus Notes. I have the same IMAP account in Lotus Notes too.
6) It retrieves all the folders and mails from the IMAP server
7) Now, I try to open up the same mail (that was opened in Outlook) here and I get that IMAP error.
8) Close the server.

Please find the logs attached with DEBUG on illustrating the logs pertaining to the sequence mentioned above.

Kindly let me know your analysis or any other inputs needed from my side.

Hi Jentu,

Do you also have those Warnings when connecting from Thunderbird/Outlook?

If you also have them, they are just warnings and you shouln't worry about (mails are sometimes malformed).

Do you see anything else when raising to DEBUG level the log?

Thx,
Eric

Hi Jentu,

Do you also have those Warnings when connecting from Thunderbird/Outlook?

If you also have them, they are just warnings and you shouln't worry
about (mails are sometimes malformed).

Do you see anything else when raising to DEBUG level the log?

Thx,
Eric
