xercesImpl.jar eating characters

           Summary: xercesImpl.jar eating characters
           Product: Tomcat 4
           Version: 4.1.12
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Major
          Priority: Other
         Component: Unknown
        AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: mrainey@monticello.net

I have been using the 4.0X version of Tomcat, and am testing 4.1.12. The
xercesImpl.jar appears to be swallowing xml content. I moved the previous
version of xerces.jar (1779 KB, 6/10/2002), into the /common/endorsed
directory, renamed xercesImpl and the problem went away. I can provide sample
output files, with and without xercesImpl, if it helps.
