[jira] [Created] (ARROW-17811) [Doc][Java] Document how dictionary encoding works
Larry White created ARROW-17811:
-----------------------------------
Summary: [Doc][Java] Document how dictionary encoding works
Key: ARROW-17811
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ARROW-17811
Project: Apache Arrow
Issue Type: Improvement
Components: Documentation, Java
Affects Versions: 9.0.0
Reporter: Larry White
The ValueVector documentation does not include any discussion of dictionary encoding. There is example code on the IPC page https://arrow.apache.org/docs/dev/java/ipc.html, but it doesn't provide an overview.
