[jira] Created: (OFBIZ-3066) SFA Module - Opportunities

SFA Module - Opportunities
--------------------------

                 Key: OFBIZ-3066
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-3066
             Project: OFBiz
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: marketing
Affects Versions: Release Branch 9.04, SVN trunk
            Reporter: Pierre Smits
Fix For: Release Branch 9.04, SVN trunk

It is possible to enter/select a currency for the opportunity. But the value chosen is not shown on the overview of the opportunity

Also it is possible to enter/select a type of opportunity. But it shows the key value, not the description.

Why do you expect that?

High expectations are the seeds of disappointment and the fruit of
misunderstanding.

That would be tragic... but it's your choice and certainly you are
free to do as you will since this is a purely voluntary community (ie
no force involved).

And how should we go about doing that? Unfortunately my wand is broken

committer" spell.

Don't be silly. Yes, you might be able to expedite things with money,
but there are lots of committers. For details see:

http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBADMIN/Apache+OFBiz+PMC+Members+and+Committers

There are currently 20 people with commit access. All you have to do
is convince one of the 20 to commit your patch.

Maybe what Hans meant is that you seem to be so used to getting things
done by paying people to do things that you're having a hard time with
the things that drive a voluntary community: merit and respect (often
manifested as cooperation).

Hi Jacques,

Thanks for your reply. Of course I am more than happy to add some of my 5
cents to help improve OfBIZ. and I agree that great pieces of work takes
effort that takes more than months (or years). I very much appreciate the
work everybody has put in.

Re becoming a committer: I am more than happy to participate in that role in
the future, when being called upon.

Regards,

Pierre

PS Magic wands are indeed rare. Pity. I would have guessed that David was
the designated court jester....;-)

Yes, now that Tim has expressed that he and his team are not worried, I can't see any obstacles.

Yes, right. I can't tell much about the requirements and how and far they have been used since did not either wrote them nor worked
on the implementation.

We have all constraints, please be patient. OBFiz was not build in a day (and not even a week, not even a month, not ev..., ok I'm
sure you got it ;o)

> If there are constraints regarding time available from people involved in

Please consider, for instance, the work I did for free this month for the community. It's only an example since each active members
of the community has done at least as much in a month, and some for years now...
Then you will understand that some Jira issues have to wait. Especially because it's easier to commit a small fix here and there
than to dive in a bigger work when you have also to earn a living...
This said, sure, like everybody, I'd appreciate also more commitment from other commiters, who would not want that ?
BTW, if you are really interested to help at long term, I'm sure we are all happy to welcome you as a commiter in the future...

Thanks for your interest in OFBiz

Hi Jacques,

See my comment that i put in the JIRA on 22/Oct/09 07:28 AM.
Leaving out the payment segment is *not* in the patch... So you don't have
to worry about that.

But you are right. Reviewing patches is always good.

If people are reviewing it, that's ok. And I expect to hear/read from them
soon with their comments/plan of action.

However, we both (and others) agree that the SFA module needs more than some
love to become a best in class solution. We have a ancient document that
outlines in a high level where the application should go. But are the stated
requirements still valid? And are these then complete? And... Requirements
are not a devleopment roadmap. Meaning that they are the input for a road to
go. Functional design/technical design detail that more. That why JIRA items
are created, I guess.

I can submit my insights and deliver patches. My insights are yust one point
of view and may be disregarded by project members. I am happy with that. It
are just opinions.
But when I submit patches to improve OfBIZ for the greater good of OfBiz I
expect something to be done with them in a timely fashion. If not handled
that way I could easily refrain from helping and go about my way....

If there are constraints regarding time available from people involved in
handling submitted patches I would suggest get more involvement on that
level.

Regards,

Pierre

if we have the performfind...extra selections are much easier to add
then curently, perhaps initially not there we sure can add them
later....

the problem with this is that existing parties do not show up......only
new ones.... As we want to start simple and extend later we initially
have a account/contact/lead assigned to an ownerparty as it is now....

Yes that is what we want however additionally with a sales manager who
can assign and move accounts/contacts/leads between members...

Enhancing search/list/filter features on start screens within SFA would
surely help user acceptance. Does the enhancement also include an easier way
to filter on Country/Account Manager/etc?

> 2. Add a screenlet to the overview to show to whom the

In the profile of a party in party manager there is a segment called
relations. Is that what we are looking for in SFA?

Currently in the trunk an account is automatically related to the creator
with the creator being in the role of owner. Shouldn't the company be the
owner of the account and the creator the manager? If so, wouldn't this also
be applicable to contacts and leads?

Does this imply that created/assigned task are also to be shown in the
events and calendar portlet (when dates are set)?

Would this be like creating a team and assigning party members to it? With
the team members having all the rights to perform actions on the associated

This works fine and solved also my concern about having result shown by default
I did not check, are 2, 3, 4 and 5 implemented now ?

Re: [jira] Commented: (OFBIZ-3066) SFA Module - Opportunities

Hi Pierre,

Let me first say hat we appreciate your efforts in this area but
remember it is all voluntary unpaid work and does not have the top
priority. Luckily David already answered a lot of your questions, saves
me a lot of time :-)

Yes i have someone from my Antwebsystems team working on it. My plans
are as follows of which point 1 should be finished in the next few
weeks, the other points I do not have yet allocated manpower to. We will
also commit your patches pretty soon.

1. leads/contacts/accounts (working on this one)
We will rewrite the search/list functions and reusing as much as
possible within these 3 functions implementing the all/my
leads/contacts/accounts principle. Either all accounts in the system or
all accounts assigned to me(logged in user). We will use the forms and
the performfind service which is now standard practice in the ofbiz
system
We keep the current file organization and format which is shown in the
sfa demo data.

2. Add a screenlet to the overview to show to whom the
lead/contact/account is assigned.

3. Events and calendar (add the existing portlet)

4. Create/assign/track activity/task related to an
opportunity/lead/contact/account

5. Implementation of sales teams: open for discussion and probably need
a customer assignment for this.

to be continued......

regards,
Hans

Re: [jira] Commented: (OFBIZ-3066) SFA Module - Opportunities

Posted by Pierre Smits <pi...@gmail.com>.
Dear Hans,

Thank you for your prompt reply...

It is nice to read that we are working on reorganizing the SFA component. I
have read some threads regarding this. I assume that with we you meant the
project and not ANT Websystems Co.,Ltd. I would like to see the plans before
work gets started, so that I can review these also and assess where my
contribution fits in.

As with regards to me supplying patches and reading your reply I got the
impressions that when I want an improvement committed in the SFA module I
can wait and see whether it will be accepted by someone (from your reply I
would say that you seem to be assigned as the last line of defense on SFA
improvement, so you are the only one), or otherwise I can pay your company
to have it commited promptly (which implies that more members of your
company can commit also, but are either not allowed by you or are busy
elsewhere).

I don't mind anybody making money of open source projects (I do so myself
and I contribute back), but trying to coerce contributors to pay so that
improvements do get in reeks like something ugly.

Last time I checked OfBIZ was still an Apache project, whereby the
organisational setup is a meritocracy and not a product of your
organisation. If time available is the constraint, then getting more people
involved on commit level is not a bad idea.

Regards,

Pierre

Certainly, but at short term on my side it mostly depends on prospect answer...
And I'd far prefer to have (even a fast) review by the person or group who did the 1st implementation than have to revert it because they don't agree (I think mostly about the payment method thing, but there are maybe others)

Hans,

Could you sum up what is meant by 'getting the SFA usable'. Or point to a document that state requirements and/or a gap-analysis?

Regards,

Pierre

Jacques, I think that we had people working on this earlier this year to make this useable for our minimal purposes. Please do not hold back because of worry of code ownership - Hans has a great plan to update this like the project management app, and if you've got time to contribute to that effort, please go right ahead.

have a look at http://docs.ofbiz.org/download/attachments/4008/IfCrmPlanEstimate.pdf?version=1

usable i mean:

1. be able to use the existing information in party manager and remain compatible between sfa/partymgr
2. If we could use leads and migrate to contacts/accounts
3. As you already mentioned show all relevant account (=company)/contacts/accounts in one screen
4. fully use the in/outgoing communicationevents (email) in all screens.
5. Be able to create/assign/track tasks

more for the larger companies:
1. maintain sales teams and being able to move leads/contacts/accounts between them

Hans,

When you look over the attached image you'll see that I have left out the update functionality for payment details. This is just in my development environment, not in the patch.

In a mail thread with Jacques I pointed out that in my opionion I do not see the added value in having this here. Showing yes, but maintaining it no. The reason for that is that maintaining payment details is not something organisation would like to see fulfilled by SFA-officers, but rather by accounting-officers.

Regards,

Pierre

> It is possible to enter/select a currency for the opportunity. But the value chosen is not shown on the overview of the opportunity
