[~gabriel.reid] Ok if I use http://hbase.apache.org/apidocs/org/apache/hadoop/hbase/util/Bytes.html#toStringBinary(byte[]) instead? There is an example under hbase-server/src/main/ruby in ./hbase/table.rb  Thanks.
