A modular build has been proposed for Apache River, the basic concept is to break up the code base into smaller manageable chunks that have dependency relationships.  Currently we're exploring the possibility of making River more modular.  People who have ideas or suggestions, feel free to list them here or participate, patches can be uploaded to River-300 on Jira.
