Setup of Eclipse PLugin

Guys:

   I am hoping someone can help me with the Maven plugin for eclipse3.2. 

   I have a simple Java project I've created to test the Maven plugin.  When I enable Maven for the project, I receive the following message within a dialog box: An internal error occurred during: "Indexing local".   The stack trace looks like this:

   java.lang.NullPointerException
	at org.maven.ide.eclipse.index.Indexer.processDir(Indexer.java:210)
	at org.maven.ide.eclipse.index.Indexer.reindex(Indexer.java:182)
	at org.maven.ide.eclipse.Maven2Plugin$IndexerJob.run(Maven2Plugin.java:581)
	at org.eclipse.core.internal.jobs.Worker.run(Worker.java:76)


  Is there a setting I've forgotten?
