[jira] [Created] (CB-1283) Investigate Webwork's Implementation of File System on Playbook

Tim Kim created CB-1283:
---------------------------

Summary: Investigate Webwork's Implementation of File System on Playbook
                 Key: CB-1283
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CB-1283
             Project: Apache Cordova
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: BlackBerry
    Affects Versions: 2.1.0
Environment: It appears that the webworks api now provides full support for html 5 file operations: https://developer.blackberry.com/html5/apis/file.html

It might be more worthwhile to switch to this implementation rather than our own solution.
            Reporter: Tim Kim
            Assignee: Tim Kim
            Priority: Minor
             Fix For: 2.2.0

On PlayBook 2.1 filereader might work but file system will not.

Dates are not finalized yet though.

Hey Nukul,

I've been using the webwork's implementation of FileEntry and
LocalFileSystem on the playbook and those calls seemed to work okay. Is it
the case that not all of the html5 file apis are implemented? If so, is
there a date when those will be out?

Hi Tim. The File.io based API you are using on PlayBook is what you should be using. The PlayBook browser only has a partial implementation of the HTML5 File API. Full support only comes in the BlackBerry 10 browser. So my suggestion is basically status quo for the Cordova PlayBook implementation until BlackBerry 10 comes to PlayBook. We will update the docs to ensure this is clear.

Seems like this is a documentation error.
HTML5 File APIs are only supported on BB10 and not supported for Playbook.

I will get the documentation fixed asap

Tim Kim commented on CB-1283:
-----------------------------

Apparently the file system documentation is incorrect from this thread:
http://markmail.org/message/z3h26unsjpqmjwg5

So only parts of the file system are implemented on playbook. I'll put this on the back burner until there are some updates.
