> The regression in KAFKA-8653 caused endless rebalances for consumers using older versions of the JoinGroup protocol. Finding this problem was not easy because the consumer was still making progress (albeit slowly). Eventually we found the problem by log inspection, but it could have been detected sooner if we had a simple meter to monitor the rate of rebalances.
